is a light colored igneous rock formed from the solidification of molten material as the slow cooling that occurs below Earth's surface allows large crystals to form. Its name is derived from the Latin word 'granun', which means 'grain', a reference to the easily seen minerals in the rock.
The granite's composition consists mostly of quartz and feldspars, accompanied by one or more dark minerals, giving the stone a red, pink, gray or white color.
Most of the granite imported to the United States is from India, Brazil, Italy and China.
Due to its hardness and resistance to acidic solutions, granite is one of the most durable stones used in various applications and it makes the ideal stone surface.
